TUGUEGARAO CITY — Throngs of good Samaritans continue to bring in relief goods, health kits and other facilities to help some 3,000 earthquake-affected villagers in Itbayat, Batanes.
Secretary Raul Lambino, Presidential Adviser for Northern Luzon and Cagayan Economic Zone Authority administrator and chief executive officer, were among the quick responders to the needs of families affected by a series of earthquakes that hit the town on Saturday, July 27.
At least 1,500 gallons of mineral water and 3,000 packs of relief goods were distributed to the affected families. Each pack contained three kilos of rice, three cans of sardines, two cans of pork and beans, three cans of ham and meatloaf, a dozen sachets of 3-in-1 coffee, six pieces of noodles, and two 500-ml bottles of mineral water.
Police and Marine soldiers helped in the repacking and distribution of relief goods for affected villagers shortly after the C295 aircraft piloted by Philippine Air Force men and a rescue helicopter landed at the Raele airstrip.
“It is unfortunate and saddening to learn that numerous lives were lost, hundreds are wounded and thousands are rendered homeless,” Lambino told the Philippine News Agency in a phone interview.
“We are coping now after the typhoon but the fears persist among many of us,” Agnes Nico, a teacher and resident of Itbayat, told the PNA thru a chat on social media.
Medical teams also arrived and gave health kits to villagers. (PNA)
