Illuminating the Future: CEZA Lights Up Sta. Ana with Solar Street Lights
Underserved communities in Sta. Ana, Cagayan, specifically Palaui Island, Barangay Tangatan, and Barangay San Vicente, are now benefiting from a solar street lighting project initiated by the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA). Thanks to the sponsorship of generous partners, including CEZA locators North Cagayan Gaming and Amusement Corporation, KAIJU Technology Corporation, and the Santa Ana Traveler’s Club, the area is now brighter and safer at night with the installation of solar-powered street lights.
Under the leadership of CEZA Administrator and Chief Executive Officer, Sec. Katrina Ponce Enrile, this project aligns with CEZA’s mandate to improve the quality of life for its constituents. Sec. Enrile emphasized the crucial role of basic utilities in economic and social development. She noted that the new solar street lights not only reduce the risk of accidents and deter crime but also enhance the dignity and way of life for the community members. With improved lighting, residents can enjoy better-lit streets and increased security, while visitors can navigate confidently through the illuminated thoroughfares.
Sec. Enrile also highlighted the advantages of using a sustainable energy source for this initiative, including cost-effectiveness, minimal environmental impact, a reduced carbon footprint, and energy self-sufficiency—particularly beneficial for communities like Palaui Island that currently lack an electric source.
This project underscores CEZA’s dedication to improving local infrastructure and supporting sustainable development. It also showcases the commitment of CEZA and its partners to working together to enhance the Cagayan Special Economic Zone and Freeport (CSEZFP) for residents, businesspeople, and visitors alike.
