Sec. Enrile Joins PBBM in Typhoon Marce Relief Efforts in Cagayan
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. was joined by Sec. Katrina Ponce Enrile and other officials of the national and local government for the onsite inspection and relief operations in Cagayan post-Marce.
CEZA Administrator and CEO, Sec. Katrina Ponce Enrile, alongside her deputies Dr. Perla Tumaliuan and Atty. Marichelle De Guzman, joined President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. in Buguey, Cagayan, on November 10, 2024, to conduct onsite inspections and relief operations following the devastation caused by Typhoon Marce (Yinxing). The typhoon, which made landfall twice on November 7, 2024, left extensive damage across Cagayan.
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. personally led the distribution of food packs during his visit.
During the visit, President Marcos and his team assessed the impact in the region and led the distribution of over 1,800 food packs. Seven municipalities, including Aparri, Baggao, Buguey, Gonzaga, Sanchez Mira, Sta. Ana, and Sta. Teresita, which were among the hardest-hit by the typhoon, each received Ph₱10 million in financial aid.
President Marcos commended Sec. Enrile for her proactive role, revealing that she was the first to report significant issues and updates from the region. “When there’s a problem here, she is the first to report to me,” he shared, which was met with praise from the public.
The President also emphasized the importance of a whole-of-government approach to ensure a swift recovery. “What needs to be done cannot be accomplished by only one department. That’s why I called all the different departments that can provide assistance to contribute in relief and rescue efforts,” he stated.
Joining the relief operation were other key government figures, including Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo, Jr., Sec. Manuel Bonoan of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Sec. Sonny Angara of the Department of Education (DepEd), Sec. Rex Gatchalian of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Sec. Ivan John Uy of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). Local officials, such as Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba, Vice-Governor Melvin Vargas, Jr., Buguey Mayor Cerry Antiporda, Sta. Ana Mayor Nelson Robinion, and Tuguegarao City Mayor Myla Ting-Que, were also present, along with Presidential sons Simon and Vincent.
